Mice lanterns to be distributed to children at the lantern fest

Date of publication:2020-01-13

On January 13, 2020, Tourism Bureau, MOTC presented the “mini lantern” of the 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival to the public.  Based on the famous folk tale about “the mice’s wedding,” the lantern is entitled “Jili and Meili.”

With effort from designer Lin Chia-wei and Lin’s team, as well as the Tourism Bureau, “Jili and Meili” shows the following three features:

1. This year’s DIY lantern set is printed on both sides of a sheet of paper. The children can either choose to make mouse groom “jili” or mouse bride “Meili.”

2. The mouse’s neck and waist is adjustable. When pulling the lantern’s double-string handle, the mouse would move its waist as if bowing for wedding vows, or for celebrating the lunar New Year.

3. The lovely lantern can also be used as a hand puppet - children simply have to place their hands in the lantern to do so. Aside from manifesting lantern traditions, it is a wonderful toy for children to play together.

The 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival will be held from February 8 to 23 at Houli Forest Park in Taichung. The mini lanterns will be distributed to the public for free. All visitors are encouraged to go to the park to appreciate lanterns.
