小笠原山位於阿里山國家森林遊樂區內，海拔2,488公尺，原名「萬歲山」。1904年10月，台灣總督府勘察隊首次踏查此地，為紀念當時勘察隊成員、嘉義廳長小笠原富二郎的貢獻，特將此地命名為「小笠原山」。
