阿里山年度盛事為3月賞櫻、12月賞楓季，為一睹季節限定美景，旅人趨之若鶩。為持續推廣阿里山林鐵，林鐵及文資處自2019年開辦賞櫻、賞楓列車，搭乘百年shay蒸汽火車附掛檜木車廂，沿途深入導覽解說感受阿里山新印象。
季節性主題列車(賞櫻、賞楓列車)，帶領遊客前往林鐵支線車站(最高海拔2,451公尺祝山車站、對岳車站、沼平車站、二萬平車站等)，皆有日本、韓國、歐美語系人士自海外前來參加，對遊程讚不絕口。
